The museum is housed in the two-storey building known as Ameliko or Ambeliko. Ameliko was built during the Ottoman occupation to house the officials who arrived at the village in order to collect taxes. From time to time it accommodated traveling groups of artisans like builders, tinsmiths and barrel makers, whereas at Easter it became the temporary dwelling of folk musicians performing in communal celebrations. Later it functioned as a community administration office and as a guesthouse. In 1996 the Museum was inaugurated and found its place here.<\/p>

The idea of creating a museum in Foiniki belongs to one of its most valued members, the late and greatly missed Fotis I. Mitsis, and so does the constant care until the completion of the project. The establishment of the association under the name \u201cFoiniki Folklore Foundation\u201d in 1993 was a decisive moment in the course of this effort. The main purpose of the foundation was the formation and operation of a Folk Museum where the history, life, art and folklore traditions of Foiniki and its surrounding area would be displayed. The first Board of Directors and its chairman Michalis Manos addressed an open call to the people of Foiniki to donate objects for the museum collection; they responded with fondness and willingness, searched in every living and storage space of their households and offered items which were typical of the life of the village in the past.<\/p>

The exhibition unfolds in four units, one in each room of the Museum. In the first unit, objects related to agricultural and stockbreeding activities are exhibited. The second unit welcomes the visitor within a typical kitchen of the past, where the utensils used for making food, consuming it away from home and storing it are displayed. The third unit functions as a simulation of the most official room one can find in a typical house in Foiniki, the so-called ontas, also used as a reception room. In the fourth and last unit, we can see the tools used for the processing of wool and weaver\u2019s broom, a loom, traditional costumes, woven pieces and embroidery. Jewelry, ecclesiastical objects and documents are also in display. Most of the objects in the museum collection date from 1840 to 1970.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
